International computer game development tournament “Global Game Jam Ukraine”

20.01.2017

From January 20 to 22, 2017, Ukraine hosted the Global Game Jam Ukraine, an international rapid computer game development tournament, for the second time. Borys Hurovyi, a master's student at the "Information Systems" department of NTU "KhPI", took part as a member of the Kharkiv team. Tournament participants had 48 hours to create a script based on a given theme, voice the game characters, recreate the environment in 3D space, and test the created game. Although the team did not win a prize, the experience gained will allow them to improve both their level of personal professionalism and teamwork skills. Now the university has all the conditions for this – within the framework of the Erasmus+ project "GameHub: University-Enterprises Cooperation in Game Industry in Ukraine", an inter-faculty scientific and methodological center "Game-Study" (NMC "Game-Study") has been created.

The NMC "Game-Study" was created with the aim of developing and implementing new information technologies in the gaming industry of Ukraine, improving the quality of education for students and postgraduates of NTU "KhPI" and research by NTU "KhPI" specialists in this field, as well as acquiring competencies and skills for developing their own computer games by ATO veterans and unemployed persons.
The development of infocommunication technologies in the Kharkiv region is also facilitated by the cooperation of the department with the specialized municipal enterprise in the field of telecommunications "Kharkiv Regional Communication Systems" regarding the implementation of measures under the regional program "IT – Kharkiv Region" in accordance with the decision of the Kharkiv Regional Council dated 14.04.2016 No. 109-VII.
Thus, there is every reason to hope for sustainable development and the implementation of effective infocommunication technologies in the industry of the Kharkiv region and Ukraine, as well as an increase in the level of intellectual potential of specialists.
