Training within the framework of the Erasmus+ project "Digital University – Open Ukrainian Initiative" (DigiUni)

From July 21 to 25, representatives of the Ukrainian Association of IT Professionals took part in the fourth working training session of the project. The consortium participants were hosted by the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) and the Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology (TIB) in Hannover, Germany.

The training program focused on topics such as open science and open educational resources; digital transformation of education, the university's digital ecosystem; national and federal initiatives and projects in the field of education, inclusive learning, IT services, lifelong learning, and micro-credentials. Ongoing cooperation projects with Ukrainian universities, such as Open Educational Resources with Ukraine_Infomatics, were also presented.

It was extremely useful to learn about the Open Research Knowledge Graph (ORKG) service, which aims to provide a structured description of scientific articles, and the eDoer service – a free, high-quality, universal, and easy-to-use tool for creating courses using artificial intelligence recommendations.

The training participants were introduced to the web platform for sharing academic videos - TIB AV Portal, as well as the Twillo and OERSI services. Twillo is a portal for hosting educational materials with an open license, functioning as a repository of open educational resources (OER) for higher education teaching, particularly in universities in Lower Saxony. OERSI is a search index for open educational resources for higher education, providing access to over 86,000 open educational materials.

During the training, participants explored the LUH digital ecosystem and the activities of the eLearning Service (ZQS/elsa) of the Center for Quality Development in Teaching and Learning. They also examined the Learning Management Systems used at the university: StudIP (the central learning management system for supporting all courses) and Ilias (a platform for learning, assessment, and conducting digital exams).

Representatives of Ukrainian universities were introduced to the experience of the EULiST project - an alliance of ten European universities. In 2018, the European Commission launched the European Universities Initiative with the aim of comprehensive and sustainable modernization of higher education in Europe. European Universities are transnational university alliances that aim to develop a common European educational space.

Participants also learned about the activities of the Center for Continuing Education (ZEW) and its professional development programs for both specialists in various fields and students through summer and winter schools, weekend programs, etc. Learning outcomes are credited in the form of micro-credits.

The training participants are sincerely grateful to the team at Leibniz University Hannover and the Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology for the useful information on best digital practices, which will certainly be taken into account in the implementation of the DigiUni project.
